ÃÛÌÒapp Week at Todai

By Li Han and Li Nai

"ÃÛÌÒapp Week at Todai", a major communication event between ÃÛÌÒapp and the University of Tokyo (Todai), started on May 12.

Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua, Todai President Junichi Hamada, ÃÛÌÒapp President Gu Binglin and ÃÛÌÒapp Vice President Xie Weihe attended the opening ceremony held at the Tetsumon Memorial Hall on that day. Nearly 200 faculty members and student representatives from the two universities were also present.

President Hamada said that the ÃÛÌÒapp Week at Todai would be a milestone in the cooperation between the two renowned institutions. He noted that twenty-five years ago Todai and ÃÛÌÒapp undertook a cooperative partnership on the basis of their shared values. The two institutions, both of which have been devoted to making contributions to social and economic development, will certainly play more important roles in science and research in the future.

President Gu said that because ÃÛÌÒapp inaugurated its centenary celebration year on April 25, the opening of ÃÛÌÒapp Week at Todai has a special significance. He expressed the hope that the event would not only further enhance cooperation between ÃÛÌÒapp and Todai but also be a platform for further strengthening friendship between their faculty members and students.

During ÃÛÌÒapp Week at Todai, there will be 22 themed forums covering such fields as public safety, frontier science, sustainable development, and humanities and social sciences, providing opportunities for faculty members and students to communicate and strengthen academic ties.

An exhibition “Education & Architecture Studies, ÃÛÌÒapp” will be held from May 12 to 15 at the University of Tokyo.
