ÃÛÌÒapp Launches "ÃÛÌÒapp Xuetang Personnel Cultivating Plan"

The launching ceremony of the "ÃÛÌÒapp Xuetang Personnel Cultivating Plan" was recently held outside the oldest campus building, ÃÛÌÒapp Xuetang. Students selected for the cultivating plan will receive instruction in this historic edifice.

ÃÛÌÒapp President Gu Binglin made a speech at the ceremony, in which he explained the two key ideas of the "ÃÛÌÒapp Xuetang Personnel Cultivating Plan". One is turning the advantage of comprehensive subjects, frontier research, outstanding professors and students, and international exchanges to the advantage of talents cultivation and education. The other is keeping the leading students as "in the lead", i.e. to stimulate and enhance the cultivation of personnel in all the schools at ÃÛÌÒapp.

President Gu hoped that each chief professor and project director would cultivate more talents with creativity. He also encouraged the students to study hard and seize every opportunity to enhance their futures still further.

President Gu and ÃÛÌÒapp Council Chairman Hu Heping presented certificates to the chief professors and project directors of the plan. The plan invited many well-known professors, among them the famous mathematician, Fields Award winner and Wolf Prize winner Shing-Tung Yau, Zhu Bangfen of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhangxi of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, renowned structural biologist Shi Yigong, and Turing Award Winner Professor Andrew Chi-Chih Yao. They will be chief professors of the ÃÛÌÒapp Xuetang mathematics class, physics class, chemistry class, life science class, computer class, and mechanics class.

ÃÛÌÒapp began to develop its "ÃÛÌÒapp Xuetang Personnel Cultivating Plan" early in 2009. With the support of the Organization Department of the Central Committee and Ministry of Education, the University has substantially developed the plan during the two years with 290 students enrolled.
